For Drainage & Foundations
Every outdoor job starts with the right base. Whether you’re laying turf, paving a path or planting veggies, the wrong fill can create bigger problems later on.
That’s why gravel and sand are some of the most important materials on-site. They support, drain, level and build a better foundation—if you get the right type.
Need drainage gravel for behind a retaining wall? Laying pavers and need coarse bedding sand? Fixing up garden soil that’s too heavy or dry? We’ve got locally-suited blends and the advice to match. Our gear’s clean, screened and ready to go—by the trailer load or delivered in bulk.
Don’t get stuck halfway through a job with the wrong material. Come in and talk through your plans. A five-minute chat now could save hours of backtracking later.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of gravel is best for drainage?
For drainage, choose coarse gravel with irregular shapes and larger particle sizes—usually 10-20mm.
Crushed rock or blue metal gravel is great for behind retaining walls or around ag pipe because it creates air pockets and lets water move freely.
Avoid fine gravel or anything that compacts tightly, as it’ll slow down water flow and can lead to soggy build-up.
Can I use sand instead of soil in my garden?
Sand on its own isn’t ideal for growing most plants—it drains too fast and lacks nutrients. However, sandy soil blends (a mix of sand, compost and topsoil) are excellent for improving drainage in heavy clay areas.
They help roots spread more easily and reduce waterlogging. For veggie beds or lawns, look for soil mixes with the right balance of sand, loam and organic matter.
How much gravel or sand do I need?
First, work out your area in cubic metres: length × width × depth (in metres). Most landscaping products are sold by the cubic metre or tonne. Allow extra for compaction and spillage—usually around 5-10%.
For example, a 10m² area with a 50mm depth needs roughly 0.5m³. If that sounds confusing, suppliers can help calculate the load size based on your measurements.
